We are a 501 © 3 charitable non-profit organization

chart] established in 2008, English River Outfitters Resort
is located approximately 5 miles south of
Washington, Iowa. It is surrounded by
Sockum Ridge Park which is 215 acres of actively
managed woodlands. This multi-use area offers much
for the nature lover and outdoor recreationist.
Hikers, bikers, and horseback riders all frequent
the Ridge. During the appropriate seasons, hunters
can try their luck for deer, squirrel, or turkey.
With adequate snowfall, cross-country skiers can
enjoy the winter wonders of these woodlands. It is
hope that our veterans, family and friends will
enjoy and experience lasting memories and
relationships at English River Outfitters Resort.
With over 2.5 million disabled veterans in the U.S.
All of our veterans had a dream about the future,
but many of those dreams got lost due to injuries
suffered in the line of duty. English River
Outfitters Resort is designed for our veterans with
the hope that they can recapture some of those
dreams that they thought were lost.

Board Members |
- Charles A. Geertz (Chuck),
President
Chuck is a native of Muscatine, Iowa; he
enlisted into the United States Marine Corps
1974 as an Infantryman. Attended basic training
at MCRD, San Diego, Ca. he attended Infantry
School at Camp Pendleton, Ca. and then was
stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably
discharged in 1976. He enlisted into the Iowa
Army National Guard, 224th Engineers in 1987 and
then enlisted into the US Army in January 1989.
He was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he
was deployed to Panama for “Just Cause” and then
was deployed again to Saudi Arabia for
“Operation Desert Shield/Storm”. He took an
assignment in Germany for three years and then
returned to Ft. Benning until he was discharged
in 1996. In 1997 he enlisted into the Iowa Army
National Guard and accepted a position in the
Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) program until he
retired in 2009.
While with the Iowa Army National Guard, he
served five years as a Recruiter and also served
as a Readiness NCO. During his time as a
Readiness NCO he also served as a Casualty
Assistance Officer for five fallen soldiers.
Chuck is married to Robin Geertz and has two
children, and three grandchildren; Tyson which
is a Recruiter for the Iowa Army National Guard,
and Nicole who is a Registered Nurse. Tyson and
Nicole are both residing in Iowa
His service schools include the Marine Corp
Infantry School, Army Combat Engineer Course,
Combat Lifesaver Course, Commercial and
Residential Wiring Course, Advance
Non-Commissioned Officers Course, and the US
Army Combative Instructors Course.
His awards and badges include: 3 – Meritorious
Service Medals, 3 - Army Commendation Medals, 7
- Army Achievement Medals, 5 – Army Good Conduct
Medals, 1 – Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, 2 –
National Defense Service Medals, 1- Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal, the South West Asia Service
Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, 1 - Global War on
Terrorism Service Medal, 2 – Humanitarian
Service Medals, 1 - Overseas Ribbon, the Kuwait
Liberation Medal and several Certificate of
Achievements.

- Robert (Bobby) Briggs,
Vice President
Bobby is a native
of Keokuk, Iowa; he enlisted in the Iowa Army
National Guard, 224th Engineer BN, on September
23, 1991 as an equipment operator. He was
activated for flood duty of 1993 and in 1995 he
started working with the Iowa Counter Drug Force
out of Camp Dodge, Iowa. In October 2004, his
unit was activated for OIF and Bobby deployed to
Iraq.
On April 16th, 2005 insurgents launched 3
rocket propelled IEDs into his Forward Operating
Base (FOB). Two of the IED’s hit their intended
target and one missed, the one that missed hit
less than ten feet from Bobby and two of his
buddies, Bobby received numerous injuries to his
head and left side of his body. Bobby is still
recovering from these injuries. Bobby was
medically retired after 17 years of military
service. He is on a quest to never be defeated,
having fun and trying to help as many veterans
as he can.
He has received the following awards; 1 - Purple
Heart, 2 - Army Commendation Medals, 3 - Iowa
Commendations Medals, 1 - Global War on
Terrorism Service Medal and 1 - Expeditionary
Medal.
He has been married to his wife Michelle since
November 1994 he has two children, Ashlea 9yrs
old and Cody 5yrs old. They are both vey active
in sports and school activities.
On June 28, 2011, Robert William Briggs, 42, of
Hillsboro, IA, formerly of Keokuk, IA, passed
away in Washington County IA from injuries
received on April 16, 2005 for which he received
the Purple Heart Award, while serving his
country in Iraq.

Secretary
Michelle is the wife of Bobby Briggs, she is
very involved with lobbing for veterans benefits
and with the Wounded Warrior Project.
- Robin Geertz, Treasurer
Robin is the wife of Chuck Geertz, the President
of English River Outfitters.
